Safety 102: Hazards in Electronics
Electronic devices are generally safe when used for tasks like talking on the phone or watching movies. However, they contain toxic metals such as lead and mercury and hazardous substances such as flame retardants and when these devices are old or broken, workers who repair or recycle them might be exposed. Improper disposal of electronic devices can also pollute the air, water, and soil, which can harm both people and the environment. Burning electronic devices can also release harmful gases into the air. In this course, we will learn about the toxic metals and hazardous substances found in electronic devices and how they can affect people and the environment.
